Another year has passed and we are looking at the second half of our tournament season for this pitching year-- I am going to repeat (with a few changes) some of the items from last year’s newsletter since they are applicable for this December also.

I will just jump right in with reminders for everyone to identify and assemble your team for the Club Team Event and let me know well before the cutoff, please! Be sure you are looking at the updated schedule because the date for the Club Team was changed to February 1, 2020. The Club Team rules will be published in this newsletter so check them out. Also, be sure to make your hotel reservations early. There may not be unlimited rooms blocked at the special rate of $89 (before taxes) at the Hampton Inn & Suites, Palm Coast. Hotel rates are usually more expensive during the high season (winter) in Florida so book directly with that location. Be sure to mention the Florida Horseshoe Pitching Association when booking to get the rates.

The new membership types for adult pitchers in the FSHPA/NHPA allows them to experience actual tournament play with us. The new levels are called Trial and Provisional. Trial membership only lasts for one event, will not have statistics reported to NATSTATS and must be upgraded full membership if they wish to continue pitching in our sanctioned tournaments. Provisional membership will allow a reduced dues amount until end of current calendar year and statistics will be reported to NATSTATS. Maybe you know someone who would like to give horseshoe competition a try!

As always, we are looking for volunteers to participate in the government of the FSHPA, remember we can’t do this without help. We had two volunteers fill in the By-Laws committee this last year and one volunteer for the Nominating Committee. We are also, with the passing of Marvin Grubb looking for someone who likes to delve in and become a committee person for the Audit and Finance Committee. This is a very important task to help keep your officers accountable. Contact the President, Dale Marteney, if this is your cup of tea—why not give it a try?

I look forward to seeing you at the pits in the coming months.

Vicki Marteney, 2nd VP
