December 2012

Happy holidays to everyone! Thank you to all of you who have sent in your state and NHPA dues to get your 2013 membership cards and apologies to all of you who are still waiting to receive them. Here are all of my excuses:

·        October was a crazy month at work

·        Nearly all of you sent in your dues at once

·        Family medical issues – everyone is doing well now

·        Membership tracking software won’t run on my new computer, old computer is not cooperating

Thank you for your continued patience.  I promise you’ll have your cards before the end of the year and I will deposit your checks as soon as possible.

The 2012 cards expire on December 31st so please send in your dues by then. All tournament directors will look for you to have your 2013 cards in order to pitch in tournaments starting January 2013.  You can find a membership application on the FSHPA website at http://fshpa.com/member.htm.  Just print it, fill it out COMPLETELY and mail it to me (address is at the end of the application). Or you can hand it to me in person if we see each other at a tournament.

The membership form has a place now for your email address. Please fill it in if you have one. We are creating a membership email list so that we can send out communications quickly and easily.

Start thinking about who will be on your team for the 2013 Team Tournament held in Melbourne January 26, 2013.

                                                      COMMENTS FROM FIRST VP

FSHPA members are aware that throughout Central Florida, a series of Horseshoe pitching tournaments are being held Saturdays and some Wednesday and Fridays.  In the 2012 -2013 season, there will be 66 tournaments. Every week you can find somewhere to test your competitive skills. We are also aware that our membership is facing a declining trend.  Some clubs have concerns as to whether they can continue. Some of our bigger clubs are getting 60 to 70 participates at their tournaments, where others have 12 to 18.  These club members give a lot of effort and time so that we can compete with other state members.  The best way to support them and say thanks is to make your reservations, show up and pitch. I know that it can be expensive to travel to some locations but our future depends on all of us making the commitment to compete more.  None of us can make a living or get rich doing this.  It’s a hobby that gives us so much enjoyment and it needs increased support.

We have added a new category on the Florida State Horseshoe Web. Site. It is labeled Members that have pitched in the most tournaments   Everyone can see ---top to bottom order---how you rank in ttournament participation.
