COMMENTS
FROM THE PRESIDENT
DECEMBER
2013
At our last EC
meeting in October the council recommended and approved changes to the State
singles
tournament format. In the past the singles format
stated that the Championship class division,
except the Junior
division, will consist of the defending champion and the 6
highest ringer percentages pitched in classes A
through E. It now reads The Championship class of each
division, except the Junior division, will consist of
the
defending champion (who
must pitch on Friday in order to pitch in the Championship class) and the 6
highest ringer percentages pitched in classes A through D. The council felt that the
defending champion should
participate on Friday in order to pitch in the Championship
class. The State Tournament schedule is posted a
year in advance and we felt that the defending champion
should be able to set aside (if they work) vacation time
to participate in Friday’s singles class. We changed the
classes that we use to select the 6 highest ringer
percentage to qualify to pitch in the Championship class from class A through E to class A through D.
Class
E pitches Saturday AM and since we
need to establish the Championship class by 6 PM on Friday we dropped class E.
The other change that we made was to
remove if a player can not pitch on Friday and indicates so by circling NO
FRIDAY.
Here again we felt that the State
Tournament schedule is posted a year in advance and for those
that work should be able to make arrangements to have time
off for the State Championship Tournament . If
you go to the World Tournament you have to take time off
and you only get a two months noticed at best.
Vicki Marteney
mentioned in her comments that there are several openings that need to be
filled and I am hoping that our
members will come forward and fill these needs. I mentioned
that we needed a Newsletter
Editor to replace Marvin Grubb but
Marvin has decided that he is feeling much better after his operation and
will continue as Editor. However I am pleased to say that
we have an Editor in waiting and that is Vicki. Vicki
does so much for the association and is willing to take on
more responsibilities. She is without saying an asset
to our association and I am so glad that she is part of
my team. Thanks Vicki.
Tom Flaherty Third VP has resigned
and we are now looking for his replacement. An email was sent to all Club
Presidents asking that they canvas
their members to see if anyone would be willing to take over as third VP and
as of this writing this position has not been filled.
In closing I wish all of you a very
Merry Christmas with your family and friends and a safe and healthy New
Year. See you at the courts.

CADET MEMBERS ARE NOW
CLASSIFIED AS 12 YEARS AND UNDER
The NHPA has raised the age for Cadet pitchers (boys and girls) to the
age of 12 years. The NHPA considered
that
children between the ages of 10 and 12 could not
compete against junior boys or girls that may pitch in the
junior category until the end of their 18th
year. If you have a child or
grand-child, that you previously thought
was too young to pitch, he or she can now
enjoy the game of horse shoes in a competitive atmosphere and will
be well received by all of our
members. Also, as a
FSHPA
junior scholarship program, something to think about.
If enough cadets join ( three or more ) the
Executive
Council may add this classification to the state closed tournament, Think about your
child or grand-
child being a state champion at this age.
