COMMENTS FROM THE PRESIDENT

                                                               JUNE 2014

It was great to see everyone at this year’s State Closed Championship Tournament at

Beverly Hills. Thanks to Ron Fair and his team for an outstanding job! The Beverly Hills members

made you feel at home and Ron should be proud of his team. They all wanted to make sure

that whatever we needed done would be done if need be. The daily preparation in seeing

that the name paddles, score sheets, scorekeepers etc. were ready to go prior to each shift.

If you went hungry it’s your own fault with the selections that was offered not to mention the

doughnuts provided each morning. The Friday night cocktail party was outstanding. Mabel

Adcox and her daughter provided the food in memory of Jim Adcox. The Saturday night

Awards Banquet was also outstanding and everyone attending had a great time. I would

like to thank the Executive Council for their dedication before and during the tournament

especially Marcy Santoyo for doing an outstanding job setting up the tournament classes.

I have said this before she seems to find time to get the job done along with having a full

time job and I am grateful that she is our Sec/Treas. A special thanks to Jim Hayden for

helping me with the plaque order. He double checked my order and found an error, picked up the plaques and delivered them to me sorted by sessions. What more could I ask for.

Congratulations to our State Champions Shalee Cason defending her title in the Women’s

division, new Men’s Champion Walter Ray Williams and new Elders Champion Larry Deck.

This year is the first year during my Presidency that we had no junior’s pitching in the State

Tournament. Also congratulations to all the class champions.

Thanks to Lucas Oil for supporting our association by providing additional prize money for the

championship classes. I am asking that our members let Lucas Oil know that we appreciate

the additional prize money by going to Lucasoil.com, click on contact on the top right and

there will be a place called E-Mail Us on the right side to send your comments.

The challenge ahead for our Association is the same as last year and that is to increase

membership as well as keeping the members we have now. Thanks to Bob Lemon who

assumed the Promotional Chairman duties until we find a member to take over this position

on a permanent basis. He was successful in heading up a task force that established

recommendations on “Retention of Membership” for all club Presidents that is in its final

stages. Now that we have Chuck Johnston as Promotional Chairman Bob Lemon will turn over his task force points of recommendation to Chuck who will continue what Bob started. Chuck has taken on a big responsibility and I am asking that each club President cooperate with

Chuck.

At our annual awards banquet I announced that I will not seek a sixth term as President.

Boyd Stonerock, Chairman of the Nominating/Election Committee will be seeking qualified

candidates to take my place. I would like to see two or more members be on the ballot and

let you the members elect the next President. It has been my pleasure being your President

the past nine years and I will continue to do what is best for our association in my final year.

Have a great summer!
