PRESIDENTS COMMENTS

Hello my name is Dale Marteney and it is with pleasure that I take the helm as your new President of our association. The first order of business was to appoint our 3RD VP and a heart felt thank you goes out to the three people that took an interest in this position. My first official act was to appoint Peggy Ogden as our newest member for our Executive Council. Mrs. Ogden brings a wealth of knowledge with her and I will be counting on her as we move forward.

Just to get to know me a little more I served in the United States Navy for thirty years, I am married to my lovely bride Vicki our 2ND VP for forty-two wonderful years. We have two grown children with six grandchildren. Our son Kyle is married with three kids serving in the Army. He gets seasick if you can believe that, what can you do? Our daughter has identical twin twelve year olds and one precocious 4 year-old. I am working on the twins to get them to pitch horseshoes with not much success so far. I have been pitching horseshoes my whole life and been with the FSHPA now for ten years.

During my tour as your president I would like to pursue having the world tournament come to beautiful Orlando sometime in the future. I know it would require many hands to pull off such a feat but I feel as a team we could do it. If we all pull together it is at least worth a try. Additionally I would like to see us grow to the numbers of yesteryear. It seems that if we can get the youngsters off the couch and out of the house, introduce them to our sport they would enjoy it. If each one of us could just convince one person to join in the fun, who knows how large our numbers could become. Thank you in advance for your support.

I would be remiss without thanking the Flagler County Horseshoe club for their wonderful job hosting the Florida State Championship, what an awesome job. Howard and Regina thank you for your tireless effort, Gwen and Ron thank you for your dedication and ideas for making this a great tournament certainly one to remember. Thank you also to all the members of Flagler’s club for all of your hard work to put on this tournament.

Finally, I would like to thank Mr. Bob Hilpertshauser for all of the hard work and dedication he has given to our association. Bob was president for ten years during which he dedicated countless hours and sacrificed time away from his family to keep this great association hitting on all cylinders. Bob has big, big shoes to fill did I mention BIG shoes to fill, I only hope I can with everyone’s help try to fill at least one of his shoes. Bob on behalf of all the Florida members, THANK YOU for everything you did for us.

                                                                                                  Respectfully, Dale Marteney Prov. 16:9
