MEETING NOTES- ANNUAL MEETING

APRIL 19, 2017

1.    Call to order by President Dale Marteney. EC present: Dale Marteney, Janet McFarland, Vicki Martney, Peggy Ogden, Marcy Santoyo

2.    Roll call of clubs – total of 18 votes: 13 club votes, 5 EC votes

3.    Treasurer Report/Acceptance: Lois Hottinger moved to accept, 2ND  by Ron Deckard; unanimous acceptance

4.    Proposed Budget Report/Acceptance – Ron Deckard moved to accept, Tim Hottinger 2nd; unanimous acceptance

5.    Correspondence – Dan Sanders info regarding judges; ask for volunteers for judges at state tournament. Will make announcement at start of each session that biggest issue is stepping on/over foul line. If the judge sees a foul then the judge can remove the horseshoe

6.    Committee Reports

      a.    Promotions Committee: Clearwater fund raiser tournament for Lions Club picked up 6 new members; made $2854 hoping to do it again next year. When picking a date don’t have it conflict with FSHPA scheduled tournaments

      b.    Beverly Hills– adopted a highway, also stickers/magnets on cars

      c.    HOF: Clearwater members painted inside of building

7.    Unfinished business – confirmed club team tournament 2018 is Beverly hills; 2019 is at Bradenton;

8.    New business

      a.    By-law change proposal – Article X, Section III

            i.    Currently reads: A member must have pitched in a minimum of five 95) FSHPA Inc sanctioned tournaments during the preceding ‘tournament year’.  An NHPA sanctioned league membership may be counted as one (1) qualifying tournament, if it covers 400 shoes or more. A State Championship Tournament shall not count as a qualifying tournament in any ‘tournament year’

            ii.   Proposed change: b. An adult member must have pitched in a minimum of five (5) FSHPA Inc sanctioned tournaments during the preceding ‘tournament year’. An NHPA sanctioned league membership may be counted as one (1) qualifying tournament, if it covers 400 shoes or more.  A State Championship Tournament shall not count as a qualifying tournament in any “tournament year”  c. A Junior member must have pitched in a minimum of four (4) FSHPA Inc sanctioned tournaments during the preceding “tournament year”.  An NHPA sanctioned league membership may be counted as one (1) qualifying tournament, if it covers 400 shoes or more.  A State Championship Tournament, shall count as a qualifying tournament in any ‘tournament year’

            iii.  Motion to amend the proposal to reduce 5 tournament min requirement for State to 4 for adults by Ron Deckard motion ; 2nd by John Murphy; 7 Yes, 8 No; needed 2/3 majority to carry; vote did not carry to amend the proposal

            iv.   Motion to amend the proposal to one (1) qualifying tournament for Juniors and for State Champtionship Tournament NOT to count as qualifying tournament by Boyd Stonerock, 2nd by Buddy Short; unanimous YES

      b.    Next year will propose 4 for adults and moving state up to march

      c.    Ron Deckard -  several members at annual Clearwater meeting want notification /receipt that state tournament entry and membership renewal received – suggested sending self-addressed stamped envelope

            i.    2-3 people had concerns at Clearwater, none from other clubs

            ii.   Since such a small number, perhaps club leadership could help them check website for state; members can call Sec/Treas with concerns to make sure mail arrived

      d.    Proposal for FSHPA to make an annual donation to NHPF (National Horseshoe Pitcher Foundation) each year to keep grant program going

            i.    Have FSHPA do it from general fund

            ii.   Add it to next year to make it annual in the budget  

            iii.  Motion from Ron to make $500 donation from general fund this year, 2nd by Mike Trudel,: unanimous approval

9.    World delegates – Vicki and Dale Marteney; Buddy Short; Alan Kasch

10.   State tournament for 2018 – Beverly hills; 2019 Flagler, if not Flagler then Brevard, then Bradenton

11.   Open discussion –

      a.    many pitchers don’t like how tournaments are being run on East Coast

            i.    pitchers don’t want to pitch then sit to keep their scores

            ii.   changing this year on east coast to $20 entry fee

            iii.  Possibly can use self -scoring technique used in other states

      b.    New people signing up should get some sort of welcome packet – they do get welcome letter with links to all pertinent information. Letter was read aloud. We do have brochures to add but they need to be updated.
