COMMENTS FROM SECOND VP

I would like to thank the pitchers of the State of Florida for this highest honor of being inducted into the FSHPA Hall of Fame. It is a great privilege. I am touched by this award.

We’ve had a bang up season and now it is settling into our summer quiet time unless you are getting ready to pitch at the World Tournament being held in Florence, SC this July.  So then it is practice, practice and more practice.  Our summer includes all that practice and a sweet side for us to the month of July is that our son, his wife and our three granddaughters will be moving to the Augusta, Georgia area then too. Unfortunately, Dale and I missed the WT in Alabama because we had to travel to visit them in, wait for it, Hawaii that year.  It was rough travelling to Hawaii the summer before last but someone had to do it!!

I hope everyone who attended the State Tournament at Beverly Hills enjoyed themselves. I was pleased to see some of the newest members of the FSHPA participating in their first tournament ever.  I’m glad they could enjoy the facilities at Beverly Hills too.  I had my first state tourney at Beverly Hills about 13 years or so ago.  I don’t remember how many pitchers there were then but we had a great turnout this year.  Many thanks to the Beverly Hills Club and their members!!

Our behind the scenes volunteers do an awesome job all during the year—Marvin Grubb, Lois Hottinger, Marcela Santoyo—without them we wouldn’t have a newsletter, a website, someone is keeping track of how many tourneys each person has, our tourney stats reported correctly to the NHPA, our membership cards wouldn’t get to us and the bills wouldn’t get paid.  There is much going on behind the scenes that no one realizes.  Be sure to recognize those volunteers and maybe even become one.  It is very rewarding to help others along.

I’ll be seeing you on the courts.

I would like to thank everyone who attended the Florida State Tournament in Beverly Hills, pitchers and spectators alike. It takes all us to make these tournaments great. A BIG thank you to all the members of the Beverly Hills Horseshoe Club who came out to help with the tournament, we couldn’t have done it without you.  My only regret is that more people don’t stay on Saturday afternoon to watch the championship matches. For those of us who were there, we saw some amazing pitching. Congratulations to all the class winners and the championship winners. Next year Flagler will be hosting the State Tournament, hope to see you there.

Chris and I will be going to the World Tournament in Florence, SC. in July. I didn’t think I would be pitching, but I was able to pitch in Clearwater on May 5th, so now I have the 4 tournaments I needed. As of the latest numbers Florida will be well represented. I know of several people who will be attending for the first time. Looking forward to seeing some really good pitching.

I hope everyone has a fun and safe summer. See you in September.
