We had a fantastic four days for our State Closed tournament held at Flagler County Horseshoe Pitching Club in Bunnell. We couldn’t have asked for any better weather, the facilities are superb and if you missed it this year maybe you can make next year in Melbourne.

Remember that we have some new types of membership to encourage and promote our sport of horseshoes for the uninitiated. So if you run across someone who would like to participate in a tournament when the season starts again this fall—think “trial” (a one time tourney) and “provisional” (a reduced membership cost). Both of these will require that 2 NHPA members witness and score 100 shoes (ringers only) for that person within 30 days of entering the tournament. The next step is to contact the Tournament Director who will get a membership number.

Have a cool summer (if you can) and I’ll be seeing you on the courts in the fall.

Welcome to Donnie Nettles as our new First Vice President. A big thank you to Janet McFarland for all her hard work over the past years.

I think the State Tournament was a rousing success. Thanks to all the members of the Flagler Horseshoe Club and my fellow members of the Executive Council. Just to brag a bit, this was my first time coming in first and winning a plaque.

My husband, Chris and I will be going to the World Tournament in Texas this year. Two of our State Champions will also be there, Shalee Cason Women’s Champ and Dale Marteney Men’s Champ. If everything goes right, you should be able to check out the action at the NHPA website.

Everyone, please have a safe and happy summer. See you on the courts.
