COMMENTS FROM
THE PRESIDENT
MARCH
2010
Our Association will be celebrating Fifty Years at our State Tournament in April.
The Brevard County Horseshoe Club will be hosting this event and they have
some special prizes that will be given away daily. We are hoping that the turn
out for this year’s tournament will exceed all pervious tournaments. After all this is
a milestone for our Association and only you the members can make this the
biggest ever. The awards banquet will cap off the weeks events and we hope
that you will attend it as well. Marvin Grubb and Jim Smith are doing an
outstanding job on the website that provides you with a host of information,
such as single and doubles entry forms and the format for single and doubles
play. Also there is information on activities and lodging. Once John Peplinski
completes the scheduling of classes it to will be posted on the website. Visit the
FSHPA website for periodic updates.
The club team tournament held at
due to inclement weather. The morning session went well and pitched under
ideal condition. However the PM shift was a different story. The sky opened up
which caused a short delay. Play resumed but after a period of time it was
decided by the EC to cancel the tournament and return the entry money back
to the clubs. The EC has always addressed that this tournament should be made
as fair as possible for all clubs and their teams. The weather changed this. When
looking at the schedule, some teams had 4 or 5 team members pitching in the
AM and 1 or 2 in the PM. Other teams had 1 or 2 pitching in the AM and 4 or 5 in
the PM. You can draw your own conclusion as to which teams had the
advantage if play was completed. That is why the EC decided to cancel the
tournament instead of waiting out the storm. Chuck Johnston and the
Clearwater HSC did an outstanding job in hosting this tournament. Thanks to Ron
Deckard tournament director on setting up the classes and scheduling.
The host for next year’s tournament will be determined by having a drawing at
the Club/ Executive Council meeting in April. Clubs that qualify to host next
year’s tournament will be notified and asked if they would be interested in being
the host.
A reminder to all Club Presidents. If the Club President cannot attend he or she
must submit the names of their representative and alternate to John Peplinski by
April 1st in order to be eligible to vote. The agenda for this meeting is printed
elsewhere in the newsletter.
This is the time of year that we all get together to socialize and compete in a
venue that does not get any bigger for our association and I am looking forward
to it and I hope all of you as well. Good luck to all!
