COMMENTS FROM THE PRESIDENT
MARCH 2012
First I would like to welcome
Bob Lemon First VP to the council. Bob is going to make an excellent member of
the council and I look forward working with him in the future. Bobs first
comments to the members are printed elsewhere in the newsletter. When you see
Bob introduce yourself so he can get to know you. He is a good listener and
wants to make our association better.
The Club Team Tournament held
in Sebring was again a success. This was the second year that this tournament
was run using the 100% handicap count all format. As I mentioned in the past
this format was designed to level the playing field allowing each team a chance
to win and that was accomplished this year with the Oviedo HSC (small club)
being crowned champion. Looking over the results only 9 points separated the
top 4 teams and 29 points separating the top six finishers. This year we had 15
teams representing 9 clubs. I want to thank the Sebring HSC club for doing an
outstanding job in hosting this tournament. Putting on a 1 day tournament of
this size is a big undertaking and could not be accomplished without the help
from other clubs. Thanks to Marcela Santoyo for setting up the classes and
schedule and the Executive Council for being actively involved. Beverly Hills,
Brevard, Bradenton and Clearwater clubs are eligible to host next year’s
tournament. Beverly Hills and Brevard has already put their names in for the
drawing that will be held at the annual meeting in April. Remaining team’s have
until April 1st to submit their club to me.
The Executive Council met on
Friday January 27, 2012. One of the items on the agenda was to finalize State
Tournament activities. The Bradenton HSC host of this year’s tournament has
done an outstanding job preparing for this year’s tournament. They have
selected a motel, banquet and location for (no Thursday) Friday night’s
cocktail gathering. This information (thanks to Jim Smith and Marvin Grubb) is
printed elsewhere in the newsletter as well as on the website. When making motel reservations I encourage
all of you to use the motel of choice. You will save the association money
by doing so. The EC’s motel rooms (for 4 nights) are paid for by the state.
However these expenses can be reduced by reserving rooms at the motel of
choice. The Bradenton HSC has negotiated for every 25 rooms booked the state
will get 1 complimentary room. So help out your association by making your
reservations at the motel of choice.
My comments for last year’s
March newsletter I said that this would be my final comments to the
association. Well I was wrong with the turn of events that happened since then
I am back as your President. As I did the six year’s previous I will make sure
that whatever we do will be in the best interest of all members of our
association. We have an excellent council in place and I am looking forward
working with them.
I recommend to the Club Presidents that you assign an
alternate that can take your place at the Annual Club/Presidents meeting if for
any reason you cannot attend. This way your club will have a vote. Alternates
name must be submitted to Marcela Santoyo by April 1, 2012.
Hope to see all of you at the
State Tournament in Bradenton.
