Comments----Bob Lemon 1st VP, FSHPA
We have had a great Tournament Season for 2013-2014 except for a couple of weather
related cancellations in Jan and Feb. This season will end on March 31,2014 with the
State tournament being held in
Hills membership is making all the final plans to hold a state playoffs that will make us
all proud. All the info. about the Tournament will be in this Newsletter. And on our Web
Page.
Speaking of the Web Page--------- Check out The Members THAT HAVE PITCHED IN MOST
TOURNAMENTS section. Our participation by both
has been the best it has been in the last few years. As you know we are having a contest
on Tournament participation with the #1 receiving a new Horseshoe Case and a new event
Shirt with their name on it. All others over the goal of 16 tournaments will go into a
drawing for a Horseshoe Case also. Out of State pitchers over a goal of 10 will go into a
drawing for free entry of a Florida Tournament next season. This list includes every
tournament you have completed in
will have about 58 members who will qualify for the drawing, as opposed to last year of
27. Also you can see which members have achieved their required 5 to be able to
participate in the State Tournament. Thanks for all your support.
I have always said that our Tournament Directors are the backbone of the FSHPA
organization. My belief that
this statement is true happened in
and 9th 2014. On Saturday of the 8th. It was a rainy day and it was obvious that we were
not going to be able pitch that day. Mike Trudel the Tournament director arrived very
early that morning and call me before I arrived to see if we should cancel. My advice was
to cancel, but Mike asked what about moving it to the following day on Sunday. He wanted
to know if it had been done before and if it would be supported by the State. My answer
was yes if he thought he could get it done. Mike being the self confident person he is---
said “I will get it done”. He, Gwen and Ron Mehrwerth, Peggy Ogden started to call all
that were registered. They felt if they could get 40 or so to come on Sunday it would be
a go. Well they got 68 from 73 that was scheduled for Saturday. Now with 68 people
committed to Sunday, what was going to be done to get the courts in shape to be able to
compete. ( because the pits were under water ) This is where the head trustee Chris Ogden
came in to the situation with his tremendous work ethic. He called for volunteers to get
them in shape. Lance Potter, Stan Champion, and Dan Lizakowski stepped forward. They
worked well into the evening to get them in shape for the next day. What a job they did
!!!!!!!
