COMMENTS FROM THE PRESIDENT

MARCH 2014

First I would like to welcome Gwen Mehrwerth Third VP to the council. Gwen is going to make

an excellent member of the council and I look forward working with her in the future. Gwen’sfirst comments to the members are printed elsewhere in the newsletter. When you see

Gwen introduce yourself so she can get to know you. She is a good listener and wants to make

Our association better. Welcome aboard Gwen!

It’s that time of year where the 2013-2014 tournament season winds down. Five tournaments

(sanction league play of 400 shoes or more can be counted as a tournament) are needed in order

to qualify to pitch in the State Tournament. It is not too late for members that need to get a few

more tournaments in to meet the minimum for the State Tournament. Ron Fair and his team at

Beverly Hills have put in a lot of hours the past year to make this tournament a success. We at

the state level and Beverly Hills HSC are hoping that this year’s tournament will be a banner

year. The application for the Mixed Doubles, Doubles and Singles are printed elsewhere in the

Newsletter as well as the Website. Information for all other activities you will find in this

newsletter and on website as well.

The annual Club/Executive Council meeting will be held at the Civic Center, 77 Civic Circle,

Beverly Hills, Fl on Wednesday April 23rd starting 9:30 AM. The Civic Center is right across

from the horseshoe pits. The agenda for this meeting is printed elsewhere in the newsletter and

on the website. However I would like to point out several items on the agenda. Two By-Law

additions submitted by Boyd Stonerock and one By-Law change submitted by Vicki Marteney

will be addressed and you will find them printed in this newsletter. We will also talk about the

process for Medical Exemption on pitchers that want to move up to 30’. In the past few months

we have had complaints of conduct at tournaments. We will discuss what Tournament Directors

need to do when made aware of Sportsman-Like Conduct. Issues like this need to be address

immediately and not several weeks later. It is important that each club has representation at this

meeting. I recommend to the Club Presidents that you assign an alternate that can take your place

at the Annual Club/Presidents meeting if for any reason you cannot attend. This way your club will

have a vote. Alternates name must be submitted to Marcela Santoyo by April 1, 2014

The Club Team Tournament held in Bradenton on January 25th was again a success with 9 clubs

represented and 12 teams. The Oak Bend Charlie Thornsburg Memorial team finished first. I am

sure that Charlie was looking down on the event and cheering his team on throughout the day.

The other top four finishers were Brooksville second, Sebring Team 1 third, Bradenton Team 1

forth and Sebring Team 3 fifth. Thanks to Lois Hottinger and her team for all they did too make

this tournament a success.

Hope to see you at the State Tournament.
