THE TOLL OF TIME
CHARLES
EDWARD THORNSBURG
Charles Edward Thornsburg Sr. 74 of Chiefland
passed away at the age of 74 on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Haven
Hospice
in
roudly served his country in the United States Army. Charles was an avid
horseshoe pitcher participant and organizer, and was
inducted into the Florida State Horseshoe Pitchers
Association Hall of Fame. He was also President of The Suwannee River
Horseshoe Club.
He enjoyed visiting his friends at the local restaurant, fishing, but most of
all just being around his family.
Mr. Thornsburg was preceded in death by his infant
son, Mark Thornsburg.
He leaves to cherish his memory his sons: Charles Edward Thornsburg
Jr. (Sandi) of
and Scott Edward Thornsburg
(Amy) of
Tommy Thornsburg.
A few words of tribute of
Charlie Thornsburg
He was a great advocate for
horseshoes. If you wanted to pitch, you had to love him (he made it as easy as
possible).
He would go out of his way to
help others. He did far more than I could ever do. Once while I doubted we
could do something, he
looked me in the eyes and said, “This club (
Charlie was the Real Deal,
and he would love to be pitching with us today. I’m pitching for him.

PAUL J. KURLEMAN
KURLEMAN, Paul J. 74, of
years; son, Scott (Stephanie); daughter, Penny Schermer (Tom); seven grandchildren, Tommy, Tara,
and sister, Bernice Loesing.
Paul was a member of the
Clearwater Horseshoe Club for several years and a member of the FSHPA. In
addition to horseshoe
pitching Paul loved to fish and watch his grandkids baseball
games.
Charlie and Paul will be dearly
missed by all their horseshoe pitching friends.
GEORGE
CORSON
The Brooksville
Horseshoe Club, the Brookridge Horseshoe Club, and
the
Pitching Assoc. has
lost another long time member.
George Corson has gone to be with the Lord. His Daughter, Leslie
and Son in Law, Bob were
with him.
George was a member for many years and pitched in several World
Tournaments.
He was 1st of all
a Minister for his church, a good father, and real friend of both
club's members.
George had just turned 90 years old.
He loved to pitch shoes and when
his body would let him, he was there. He was one of the few World War II Vets
left. He
did Submarine duty during his tour.
JOE STRONG
Joe was a member of the
lived the past two years.
He was an avid golfer and horseshoe pitcher. He was the type of guy
that anyone could have fun with and be around. Joe enjoyed life and being around his friends
in
horseshoes. He will be sadly missed by the The Villages and Melbourne members.
