PROCEDURE FOR CONDUCTING STATE CHAMPIONSHIP CLASS

The Mixed Doubles and Doubles competition creates quite a problem for the Executive Council in determining a method of conducting the

Championship class that is equitable for all. This year the following method will be used to schedule the Championship and “A” class that should be

equitable to all and still give the better teams a bit more competition.

The seven or eight highest entering average teams will be scheduled as a pitching class. The teams will be handicapped at 80% if the ringer spread is

greater than 10%. The pitching format will be double alternate pitch. The 48 shoe games will be pitched and the final score will count in two ways.

First the team winning with the highest score will get a win in the Championship class and the other team will receive a loss in the Championship

class.. Then, the handicap will be added to the scratch score to give a handicap game score. The handicap winner will receive one point and the other

team will receive no points in class “A”. If the handicap score is a tie each team will receive one-half point in the “A” class. After the handicap score

is determined and there is no tie in the actual score the teams will move on to their next game. If the actual score is tied then the teams will continue with a

4 shoe pitch off as described in the NHPA playing rules to determine the actual winner, the handicap score will be taken at 48 shoes and the four extra

shoes will not count in the handicap score.

At the conclusion of pitching the “A” class champions will be that team with the most handicap games won. Tied positions will be determined by the

NHPA RGS Book Rule 11 or the “Head to head” method used by the HSmaster program. The procedure to be used will be announced at the tournament.

At the conclusion of pitching the Championship class will be determined on games won and lost. If there is a tie for first place then a play-off game

or games will be conducted in the same manner as described in the singles competition article. All other positions in the Championship class will be

determined by the NHPA RGS Book Rule 11 or the “Head to head” method used by the HSmaster program. The method to be used will be

 announced at the tournament.

The above described is really quite simple. Each game pitched counts as an actual score and also as a handicap scored game. The “A” class handicap

winner will receive first place money and a trophy. Second, third and possibly fourth place winner will receive cash prizes. The State Championship

class winner will receive the State Champions trophy and $80.00 prize money.
