March 2015
Hope everyone has been enjoying winter
in Florida. It’s been a rather mild winter – I haven’t had to pull out
my rabbit fur lined mad bomber hat yet. We did wind up
cancelling the February tournament in Oviedo since
the forecast called for extreme cold and only 4 pitchers signed
up. The joke was on us, though, as it turned out
to be a beautiful day and would have been excellent pitching
weather.
I’m looking forward to the State
Tournament in Flagler this year. Always a good opportunity to catch up with
people we don’t get to see all the time. And Flagler is beautiful.
I’ve enjoyed all the tournaments I’ve attended
up there and I take advantage of being close to the beach.
Flagler Beach is not crowded at all and it’s gorgeous!
There are a few really enjoyable
places to eat right near the ocean, too.
Best thing about Flagler, though, is the
horseshoe club – terrific people who have created a lovely pitching
environment.
Membership is up from this time last
year. We have 292 members so far and I have a few more to add this
week. Last year at this time we had 276. Thank you to all your
recruiting efforts!
Please remember that you can give me
a call or send me a text message using my cell number 407.399.4908 or
if you prefer, you can email me using marcysantoyo@hotmail.com. I try to answer my cell right away but if
you get my voice
mail, please leave a message. I’ll call you back as soon as possible.
See you in April at the state
tournament!

COMMENTS FROM 1ST VP
Well here we are into
the month of March already. It seems like yesterday that we were competing in
2014 State Horseshoe
Championships in Beverly Hills. I have been told, that the older you get, the
faster the days go. I guess I am old because they
are flying faster every year for me. This year’s State
Championships will be
held in Palm Coast ( Flagler County ) on April 22, 23,
24 and 25, 2015. Do you
have your 5 tournaments in to qualify for entry into
our Florida State Finals?. If you have concern
check on the web page under the Banner (
Member’s that have pitched in the most Tournaments ).
While you are checking
look at the top of the list for all the names that have competed in 16
tournaments or more since April 1, 2014 to date. Those
that have 16 will have their name placed into
a drawing for every tournament over the 16
tournament quota. The winner of the Drawing will receive
a new pair of horseshoe up to $65.00 in
value from Boyd Stonerock. The member with the
highest
tournaments will receive a new set of horseshoes ( $65 )
and a new Shirt with their name on the back
to use in future Tournaments. If there is a tie
for #1 a drawing will be held to find the final winner and
break the tie. As for our friends that are out of
state NHPA members their quota is 10 tournament and
their drawing will be for a free entry into a Florida
Tournament of their choice next season.
Most of our Florida
events have been will attended and it has become necessary to contact the
tournament director early to make sure they have a
spot open for you. As you read this I would
suggest that you review the remaining schedule on the
web site and book it now. Make sure you
meet the 5 and 16 quotas.
Looking forward to
seeing y'all at the STATES.
