THIRD VP COMMENTS

Hello everyone! I can’t believe it is almost time for our Florida Closed Games at Bradenton beginning April 20th and ending on the 23rd. I hope to see many of you there! Remember you must have a minimum of five (5) FSHPA sanctioned tournaments during the preceding "tournament year" to participate. If you do not have them in hurry time is running out! I would also like to thank Irve Swihart, Harlen Byron and the entire membership of Sebring (Highlands Horseshoe Club) for hosting our State Team Tournament this past January. A great time was had by all. Congratulations Bradenton for winning first and second place! It was also the first time (to my knowledge) that we had more than enough scorekeepers for both the morning and afternoon classes. I hope this continues for the Florida State Closed tournament! Your executive board has been very busy discussing ways to recruit and retain members there were a few interesting ideas which may be implemented in the near future.

Your input is always welcome since members are our life force to the sport we all know and love.  Keep those ringers going and I am sure that I will see you all soon at a tournament somewhere until then... Ringer only,

As I sit here writing this the weather has gotten a little warmer. The last couple of weekend tournaments, to say the least, were a bit of a struggle. I know our friends who are from the North are saying, “You should be in _______ (fill in the blank), it is really cold there. Since moving to Florida I have become accustom to the heat and I like it. We will miss all of the snowbirds when they head home, but before they leave there is still a lot of pitching to do.

Sebring did a wonderful job hosting the State Club Team Tournament in January. I would like to add my congratulations as well. Vicki Marteney and Marcela Santoyo are also to be thanked for a job well done. It is no easy task to assemble all the team statistics and schedule the players. It has been proposed that the State Club Team Tournament be on a rotation basis, like the State Closed Tournament, so we will be looking for clubs that want to be on the schedule.

I am hoping for a good turnout at the State Tournament in Bradenton. I know they have been working very hard. Details about the tournament will be on the Florida State Horseshoe Pitchers Association website. Check all the links for lodging, shirts, annual meeting, Friday night party, Awards Banquet and entry forms. If any of your fellow pitchers don’t have access to a computer, please print some extra copies for them.
