SECOND VP COMMENTS
It doesn’t seem possible that
our “season” of horseshoes is halfway over already. I hope you all are enjoying the weather this
winter with it’s warmer than usual temps.
Except for the day we held the Club Team Tournament in Winter Haven. Some
of that day was BRRRR with just a smidgen of nice. We had 13 teams representing
11 clubs this year, that’s 78 pitchers from all across Florida and the other
states represented by our clubs snowbirds.
The snowbirds we have sure do contribute so much to all of our Florida
tournament season. The Winter Haven
Horseshoe club really did a good job of organizing. Roxanne Main who had a handle on some of the
behind the scenes projects couldn’t even be around for the tournament. She had to go be with her daughter and meet
her brand new grandchild out of state.
Something I noticed at a
tournament I attended was that some of the 30’ pitchers were not standing back
behind the backboard when there were 40’ pitchers in the next court. Please remember the common courtesies of our
game.
It is time to gear up for the
State Closed Tournament for our Florida members so check out the website banner
for more information about that. Please
be aware of how many tournaments you have and check out the schedule of
tournaments for any others you may need to qualify. And be sure to sign up for the State Closed
before the deadline. The forms and rules will be posted on the website. I look forward to seeing everyone in
Clearwater in April this year.

I
hope everyone is enjoying the good pitching weather we have had this year. Warm
temperatures and sun make me very happy. I will admit I am the first one to
complain if it gets to cold, that’s why we moved to Florida. So, I will keep my
fingers crossed and hope the nice weather continues.
I would like to thank all of
those involved from the Winter Haven Horseshoe Club for hosting the State Club
Team Tournament. Congratulations to the winning teams. Next year the tournament
will be held in Beverly Hills (my club) and we are looking forward to
all the clubs sending teams.
The next big event is of course
the Florida State Championships at the Clearwater Horseshoe Club in April. Information
and forms will be on the FSHPA website. Mixed Doubles on Wednesday, Doubles on
Thursday, Singles on Friday and Saturday. and the
Championship for Singles Saturday afternoon. I know it is not easy for everyone
to stay on Saturday, but for the competitors who make into the finals, it would
be really nice if we had a bigger crowd watching and cheering them on. Hope to
see a lot of you in Clearwater!
