Happy Spring! I was glad to see so many teams participating in the State Club Tournament. It is a lot of work for the Executive Council and the host club, but it is worth it. Congratulation to Brevard Horseshoe Club.

Next up is the State Closed Tournament in Beverly Hills. As the VP of the Beverly Hills Horseshoe Club, I am looking forward to a great tournament. We made some changes in the schedule this year and hope more people will be attending the dinner on Friday night.

It looks like most of our cold weather for Florida is now over.  Which means we should have some really pleasant days for pitching horseshoes.  I hope you all take advantage of that, I know Dale and I are trying to.  We had a great day for pitching at Beverly Hills at the Club Team and an excellent turnout.  The best thing was that we had 15 teams and could pitch in just two sessions because of the number of courts at their facility.  I hope everyone that participated had a good time.  I tried to make sure that when you pitched you could pitch against someone from another area that you may not normally see.

I will be happy to carry on as 2nd Vice President for all of you here for the next term.  I enjoy helping where I can.  No one put forth any by-law changes for consideration for this year’s annual meeting.

We are gearing up for the State Closed Tournament also being held in Beverly Hills.  I look forward to seeing you all there.  Mixed Doubles will be on Wednesday afternoon so start finding a partner, Doubles on Thursday and Singles on Friday and Saturday.  If you can’t find a partner, there is usually a list compiled of others who don’t have partners but want to pitch. There is a place on the website with details on how to find your partner.  The Banquet held Friday evening is a much more relaxed affair with ‘come as you are’ immediately after the pitching is completed on Friday evening.  The special awards will be given out on Friday such as Outstanding Member, Highest Tournament Year Ringer Percentage, Member Competing in Most FSHPA Tournaments, Most Improved Player, etc. (all of these awards are detailed in the Florida By-Laws).  The Championships will still be held Saturday afternoon with those awards immediately after.

I look forward to seeing you on the courts in the near future.

Vicki Marteney, 2nd VP
