Hello all!

After much deliberation and discussion, the Executive Council regrets to inform the membership that we have cancelled the 2019-2020 season Florida State Tournament.

We were hoping that things would have returned to normal by now, as I'm sure all of you were. We do not know if we'll be able to gather in large groups by May 20th. We don't know if we'll still have to do physical distancing. We don't know if we'll be required to wear masks while pitching. We don't know if we'll be able to sit down together for our annual banquet.

Much of our membership is not available to pitch in May because of other plans (here's hoping that those plans don't get derailed). A large percentage of our membership is high risk in terms of this Covid-19 virus. And many others are the sole caregivers for their spouses and cannot risk getting sick by being around large crowds or staying in hotels.

For all of these reasons and because our priority is the health and safety of our membership, we are called to cancel the tournament.

We'll have to put an asterisk in our historical records explaining the gap. All current State Champions will be recognized as defending champions at the 2021 State Tournament. All End of Year Awards (usually announced at the Annual Banquet) will be announced on our website and via email with plaques and patches going out to the winners in the mail. Brevard will host the 2021 State Tournament and the normal rotation will continue from there, with Bradenton up next, should that club accept.

Perhaps things will get back to normal by the time the World Tournament rolls around this summer. If they do and if you go, good luck!! And thank you for representing Florida State Horseshoe Pitchers Association!!

Please take good care of yourselves so that we can see each other as soon as possible!!

Here is the update that we have all been expecting....the Executive Council met yesterday afternoon to discuss the Covid-19 situation and its impact to our membership and to our upcoming State Closed Tournament.

We are STILL looking forward to a successful 2020 State Tournament at Brevard County HC, but we will have it a little later in the year. The Brevard County Parks Department is closing Wickham Park during our tournament dates. We have been able to reschedule them for May 20-23, 2020. We have confirmed with the host hotel that they will honor our rates for these new dates May 20-23, 2020. In fact, some of you with reservations may already have received a call from them to let you know about the change and to see if you want to change your reservation.

We are still working rescheduling the banquet venue and caterer. We'll keep you posted.

The 5 minimum tournament requirement to enter the State Tournament is being waived at this time due to these special circumstances. Some members get their 5th tournament in during the last part of March and it seems that all of our end of season tournaments are getting cancelled. So we'll waive the requirement for this year only. We will put this waiver on our agenda for the annual meeting so that it can be approved by the membership since it does go against our current by-laws.

Deadline for entries has been moved to May 1, 2020. Entries must be postmarked no later than May 1, 2020.

Shirts will still be made for the tournament, same design but with the new dates.

We will continue to monitor the Covid-19 situation and follow the guidance provided by local and state public health authorities. We will get information out to everyone by email and by posting here on our website.

Our priority is the health and safety of our membership. Please inform yourself and follow CDC guidelines found here

Be well. Take good care of yourselves. We'll see you at the pits!

Hello all! (Posted 3/13/2020 12:05pm)

There is a lot of frenzy and worry about the Covid-19 situation. The FSHPA is particularly concerned because some of our members are considered to be at higher risk of infection.

We are looking forward to a successful 2020 State Tournament at Brevard County HC but we need to prepare ourselves for possible changes. We may need to make adjustments based on the quickly evolving situation. Venues may enact policies that affect us. For example, the Orlando HC cancelled its March 21, 2020 tournament because the Beardall Senior Center, where the club is located, announced that they will be closed for a few weeks.

We'd like to take a moment to remind everyone that our priority is the health and safety of our membership. Please inform yourself and follow CDC guidelines found here
