COMMENTS FROM THE PRESIDENT

SEPTEMBER 2013

Not much has happened since the June Newsletter, however I hate to bring up the same old request each time I sit down to write my comments. I am still looking for someone to take over the Promotion Chairman position and Newsletter Editor. Both are important positions that need to be filled. We need to increase our membership and a Promotion Chairman is badly needed and I hope one of our members will step up for the challenge. The EC will give whoever takes over this position their full support. Marvin Grubb Newsletter Editor has health issues and has asked me to find a replacement. Marvin will work with whoever takes over to make the transition easy. As I stated before if no one takes over the Editors job and Marvin is unable to continue we will not be publishing future Newsletters. I ask is this what you want to happen. Come on get off the sidelines and help your association.

We had 13 entries at the World Tournament at St George, Utah. Ron Deckard regains the title as Senior Men’s Champion as well winning in class play. Ron was Senior Men’s Champion 2007 through 2010 making this his fifth title. Congratulations Ron for a job well done! Also Congratulations to Bob Lemon on coming in second in Senior Men’s Class E and Ron Hopman coming in second in Elder’s Class D, Walter Ray Williams finished 5th in both class play and Men’s Champion Class, Elder’s C Class Larry Deck finished 5th, Roy Knight 8th, Elder’s D Class Toby Young finished 4th, Elder’s I Class Walt Jones finished 4th, Elder’s K Class Bob Moussou finished 5th, Jimmie Scott finished 6th, Elder’s M Class Donald Beam finished 6th and Elder’s N Class Tom Flaherty finished 12th and our Junior Dylan Holmberg finished 8th in class play and 7th in Championship play. I am sure all pitchers had a great time.

Orlando HSC Tournament Director Bill Frazier had a stroke a few months ago and is making a slow recovery. I wish Bill the best and hope he makes a full recovery. Since Bill will be unable to continue as TD the Oviedo HSC is willing to take over this tournament season with Vicki Marteney as TD. Thanks to Vicki and the Oviedo HSC coming to the rescue and helping Orlando survive another season. It is sad that Orlando’s future does not look good.

Our membership is below 300 for the first time in many years. I am repeating comments from the June Newsletter for all to review. The challenge ahead for our Association this year is to increase membership and I would like to see the larger clubs increase their membership by 10 percent and the smaller clubs 25 percent. It is important that each club partner with their City or County Recreation Department as well as their local Chamber of Commerce. If you haven’t already, create a Charter Brochure that lists your basic charter contact information and what your club is all about. It can be a simple tri-fold print that can be displayed at the Chamber of Commerce and can be handed out just about anywhere. Since we do not have a Promotional Chairman at this time I am asking each club to take my challenge serious. Can I count on you!

I would also like to remind everyone that the dues for 2014 has increase $1.00 to $11.00 bringing the total for National and State dues to $28.00.

Have a great season and looking forward seeing you this tournament season.
